KAINGUD
Nuno Finez

Nuno evolves in making art forms from found objects and natural materials.
Assembling distorted, disproportioned art pieces using animal bones or junked electronic gadgets. Creating out of this world illustrations. Bead and bone jewelry making, carving, weaving, carpentry, installation art are also among the things that he does.
Playing [neo] ethnic music for many years got him into learning many things about our culture, our tribes, and their beliefs in the “unseen” that influenced his works.
Nuno was born in December 1981 at Iwahig Central, Puerto Princesa.
A Palawenyo artist and business owner. Studied units in Electrical Engineering at Central Philippine University in Iloilo City.
As a boy, Nuno had already filled many notebooks with his drawings and other illustrations. Though unknown to him, he was already into art at his young age.
When he got into high school, he frequently passed by or visits "Tabuan", a small business center for crafts in one of the plazas in town. He got fascinated with the works of other craftsmen, that he started collecting materials of his own. From scraps of electronic parts, animal bones he picked by the road or in the jungle, and driftwoods, which later on became the main part and materials for his art. He even used his old toys and took the pieces he needed instead of throwing them away. Out of these materials, he began making small assemblages and crafts for his collections and later as gifts to friends.
College life isn’t that easy, after two years of Electronics in Iloilo, he went back to Palawan and pursued his interest in art. He continued studying for a while and also applied for a job, but was more interested in creating. Though struggling, his perseverance led him into having his small shop to survive. During that time, he met some like-minded people, who helped him realize his passion.
He became more inspired with art and later cofounded a world music group "Kawangis ng Tribu" with his "kaingud" wherein they formally established their tribal shop "Kaingud Arts and Crafts".

Nuno emphasizes on doing responsible and ethical practices when it comes to collecting his materials. His works centers in creating "ART AFTER LIFE". He believes in creating life and art from things people commonly see as lifeless. Aside from doing Assemblage Art, his current project for Dryft Camp El Nido, is a structural design that highlights his concepts and ideas featuring the use of organic materials and his advocacy in recycling.
